Tony Milne – Biography Summary.
I was born in Invercargill in 1981 and moved to Christchurch in 2000 to attend Canterbury University.
I earned a first class honours degree in English and in Political Science from Canterbury University. At the same time I completed an assistance certificate in youth work and worked part-time as a youth worker at the 198 Youth Health Centre.
I have stood twice for Parliament in the Rakaia electorate, worked for Tim Barnett MP in Parliament for 2 years, and worked for 3 years with key community leaders in Christchurch on behalf of five Christchurch Labour MPs and Government Ministers. I have held senior positions in the Labour Party including being on Labour's governing board (NZ Council) and campaign team for the 2005 General Election.
I helped co-ordinate the campaign for the Civil Union legislation which passed in 2004 and have also worked on a Mayoral campaign in Christchurch and several smaller campaigns.
I currently work at the Problem Gambling Foundation as a health promoter and am co-owner and marketing director of a small tech business.
I became a JP at the end of 2007, am the chair of the Riccarton Residents Association, am on the board of the Christchurch Council of Social Services and Q-topia, and am involved in several community organisations.
